Natural Red Agate Silver Ring with Octagonal Setting
$316.50
A handmade sterling-silver ring set with a natural red agate, cut as a high-domed round cabochon. The setting around the stone is eight-sided, framing the round dome in a ring of flat faces, and it is left open at the back.
Agate is a dense, hard-wearing stone that takes daily wear well, and it is spoken of in Muslim tradition as a stone worn for protection.
Crafted to Order
Each ring, pendant or bracelet is made only after you order — to your size, stone and details. Crafting takes 4 to 8 weeks, plus 1 to 2 weeks for international shipping.

The Stone
A natural red agate, cut as a round cabochon with a full, high dome — the shape that gives the colour somewhere to sit, so the red reads deeper at the crown and warmer where the curve falls away toward the setting.
Agate is a chalcedony quartz: dense, hard-wearing, and one of the steadier stones to live with day to day. The colour runs through the body of the stone rather than sitting on the surface, and small differences in tone across the dome are natural to it.
The Octagonal Setting
The frame around the stone is not round. It is worked as an octagon — eight flat faces meeting at clean edges — set against a stone that is entirely curved. That contrast is the idea the piece is built on: a full, soft dome held inside a hard, geometric frame.
The flats also do something for the light. Where a round setting gives one continuous highlight, eight faces break it into separate planes, so the silver reads brighter and more defined against the deep red of the agate.
What Tradition Says
Agate is spoken of in Muslim tradition as a stone worn for protection and for steadiness, and red agate in particular has a long history in rings of this kind. It is said that wearing it settles the heart of the one who wears it.
These meanings come from long-standing belief and custom, not from any claim we make about this object itself.
Made at Our Own Bench
The silver is cast, then hammered, sawn and filed into shape — and on a piece like this the eight faces of the setting are trued by hand, one at a time, until the edges between them run straight and meet cleanly at the corners. The whole is then polished from a rough finish up to a bright shine, the stone set, and the ring finished to order.
Working this way does not mean working without tools — a jeweller’s bench has never been without drills, burrs and rotary tools, and our craftsmen use them. What it means is that every line, every cut and every stage of the finish is judged by a trained eye and set by a steady hand, rather than reproduced from a die.
Make It Yours
The stone is left plain, but it does not have to stay that way: a phrase, a name, a date or a symbol of your choosing can be engraved on it, by hand or by machine. Engraving may carry a small additional cost, which is agreed with you before any work begins.
The band is resizable to your exact size, and this design can be made again to order, so you are not limited to the single piece shown.
Wearing and Care
Agate is a hard, dense stone and takes daily wear well — it is one of the more forgiving gemstones to live with. Keep it away from bleach, strong household cleaners and perfume applied directly to the stone, and wipe it with a soft dry cloth when it needs it.
The silver will darken slightly over time, and on a faceted setting the edges tend to stay bright while the flats go softer — many owners come to prefer that contrast. It is natural oxidation rather than damage, and a light polish with a silver cloth brings the brightness back whenever you want it.
What Arrives
The ring in the photographs is the piece as it is made now: a natural red agate cut as a high-domed round cabochon, held in an eight-sided setting on a 925 sterling silver ring, with the back left open. Because agate is a natural stone, a piece made to order will be matched as closely as possible to what you see here, though the exact depth of the red will differ a little from one stone to the next.
