Transparent Dur al-Najaf Silver Ring — High-Domed Cabochon
$334.00
A natural Dur al-Najaf of high clarity, cut as a high-domed cabochon and set in 925 sterling silver. The stone is transparent and colourless, and the depth of the dome lets light travel through the whole body of it. Dur al-Najaf has been kept and worn in this tradition for centuries.

The Stone
The stone is a natural Dur al-Najaf, transparent and without colour, cut as a high-domed cabochon — a deep, rounded dome rather than a shallow one. On a clear stone that depth matters: it gives light a longer path through the body, so the stone reads as full rather than flat.
What Dur al-Najaf Is
The name causes confusion, so it is worth stating plainly: durr means “pearl” in Arabic, but Dur al-Najaf is not a pearl. It is a natural transparent stone gathered in the region of Najaf, valued for its clarity and for the way it takes a polish. It is a mineral of the earth, not of the sea, and it has been cut and set by hand in this part of the world for a very long time.
About the Stone Shown Here
The stone photographed here carries some fine natural veining inside it. That is the nature of a stone taken from the ground, and on a transparent stone it is visible. If you order this design, the stone we set for you will be either a fully clear Dur al-Najaf or one with veining of its own — no two stones carry the same markings, and we do not reproduce a pattern.
Dur al-Najaf in Tradition
Few stones are as closely tied to a place as this one. Dur al-Najaf is said to be worn as a mark of love and devotion toward Amir al-Mu’minin, Imam Ali (peace be upon him), and it holds a particular standing in Shia practice for that reason. It is also mentioned with emphasis in the Islamic narrations, and those who follow that tradition regard wearing it as something recommended rather than merely ornamental.
Beyond that, it is traditionally spoken of as a stone that brings calm to the one who wears it and is kept as a companion in prayer. These meanings come from long-standing belief and practice rather than from any claim we make about the material itself.
Made at Our Own Bench
Every piece is made from start to finish by our own master jewellers. The silver is cast, then brought to its final form at the bench, and every design, pattern and texture in the metal is worked onto the piece by the craftsman’s own hand.
Work of this kind does not mean working without tools — a jeweller’s bench has always had its drills, burrs and rotary tools, and a master uses them. What it means is that every line, every cut and every stage of finishing is judged by a trained eye and set by a steady hand, rather than reproduced from a die. It is why two rings of the same design are never quite identical.
Make It Yours
This design can be made again. If you would like the same piece, tell us when you order. An engraving can also be added: your own chosen phrase, name or symbol can be engraved on the stone by hand or by machine. Custom engraving takes additional time at the bench and may carry a small extra cost, which we always confirm with you before any engraving begins.
Wearing and Care
Keep the ring away from perfume, household chemicals and abrasive cleaners, and take it off before heavy work — a transparent stone shows scratches and dulling more readily than an opaque one. Wipe it with a soft cloth; the silver will darken gradually as it oxidises, which is normal, and a soft cloth brings the brightness back whenever you want it.
