The Dur al-Najaf stone

Dur al-Najaf is a naturally clear, transparent-white stone treasured for generations across the Shia world, where it is associated with the holy city of Najaf. This piece is chosen for its exceptional clarity: an oval stone with a smooth, flat face that lets you look straight into the body of the crystal. Because the setting is left open at the back, daylight passes through the stone and lifts its brightness on the hand.

A stone honored in tradition

In Shia culture the Dur al-Najaf is far more than an ornament: drawn from the land of Najaf, the resting place of Imam Ali (peace be upon him), it is worn above all as a token of love and devotion to the Commander of the Faithful. Islamic narrations, too, have spoken of this stone and encouraged wearing it — it is traditionally held to bring light and calm to the heart, to encourage sincerity and trust in God, and to be kept close for protection and blessing. These are meanings carried by long-standing faith, narration and devotion rather than claims about the material itself.

Made entirely by hand

The ring is worked by hand in 925 sterling silver. The silver is first cast, then hammered, sawn and filed into shape; the scalloped bezel and the leaf-worked shoulders are formed and refined by file before the whole piece is polished from a rough finish up to a bright shine. The stone is then set and the engraving cut by hand — so slight, natural variations are part of every handmade piece.

The engraving, and your own

The stone shown carries a hand-engraved phrase in Arabic:

حَسْبِيَ اللّٰه

Read Ḥasbiya Allāh, it means “God is sufficient for me” — worn as a reminder of trust in God and peace of mind. The engraving is fully customizable: in place of this phrase, your own chosen words, name or symbol can be hand- or machine-engraved on the stone. A custom engraving may carry a small additional cost, which is agreed with you beforehand, before any engraving begins. The band is resizable to your exact finger size, and because every ring is finished to order, a short crafting time is needed before dispatch.

Care

Silver darkens naturally over time; a gentle polish with a soft cloth restores its shine. Keep the stone away from hard knocks and harsh chemicals, and store the ring dry.
